Those collaboration schemes are characterised by the main location of the project team. In all schemes, face to face contacts with the client representatives are of extreme importance, forcing us to propose schemes that guarantee this minimum interaction.

• Off-shore development
  Even though very common lately, this collaboration scheme has shown it's weaknesses. Upcom does not work under this form of collaboration and even in cases the client prefers it, we engage to a near-shore contract with what we find minimum possible face to face contact with the client. • Onsite project
  When the required interaction with the users is extremely frequent or the security requirements are above a certain level, Upcom is able to commit to a project and have the complete team work onthe client premises (on-site). Contrary to a Resourcing project where most risks of the project are born by the client, the on-site projects are more like fixed-price ones and a big part of the project risk is born by Upcom. It is our responsibility to setup the correct team which would be able to help client users define the functionality they want and finally solve the problem and deliver according to expectations. The client should only commit the required users who should participate in the requirements gathering and the overall budget of the project. Everything else is our responsibility.

• Near-shore development
  Upcom considers that all developments outside the client premises are near-shore and should be considered as such: the development team is not under the client's responsibility, while all it's members who need to be in direct contact with him are either on site or in close proximity. We engage in a model where the core members of the team are in regular face to face contact with the client. Even though other communication means are extensively used through-out those projects, real meetings are frequent. This is not only required during the initial heavy in analysis period, but over it's entire duration. As Upcom is committed to bring solutions to problems and not just implement based on vague specifications, this interaction continues till the final phases of the project! For our western European clients the setup is identical to a local development company with the advantage of lower prices. The cost savings are only one facet of a successful collaboration.
