Risk sharing cases

The risk-based collaboration schemes are characterised by the partition of the complete project risk between the two parties. From the common services contract scheme, where Upcom bears responsibility on the project IT implementation, to the partnership model, where both parties share costs and risk there is a big difference. This difference is regularly expressed financially, but may also contain other elements important for one or both parties.

  • Services contract
The project risk is taken entirely by Upcom; the client should only provide clear and concise requirements and we are responsible to develop the project in time and within the originally estimated budget. Active participation of the client in the project specifications is key for a successful project, but the risk of delivering is always ours. The owner of the outcome is always the client.
  • Active Collaboration
Those projects typically share the risk between the client and Upcom, but the roles are still clearly identified. The client is not certain about the requirements and accepts and trusts Upcom on the honesty and the professionalism of its project members. It resembles to a framework agreement between the two parties, each one trusting each other in order to achieve highly optimised results. The owner of the outcome is always the client.
  • Partnership
Upcom participates not only in the project risk, but also in the project cost; the result is a shared resource that frequently results in a joint venture between the two parties. It is a model we apply when we see a business value of the project in the areas of interest to Upcom and the client does not always have the capital to finance it entirely on his own.
